Azza to the Rescue!

Spurs returned to winning ways on Sunday evening with a 3 1 home victory over Swansea. The lillywhites produced a sound performance, attacking with pace, organised defending and an outstanding display by Brad in goal. Spurs took the lead half way through the first when a Garath Bale cross was deflected into the path of Van der Vaart who made his exquisite finish look easy. Apart from the goal Swansea looked like an impressive outfit in the first half and were not troubled to much by Spurs' counter attacking football.

Swansea started the second half as the better team, they were unlucky not to equalise when SigurĂ°sson struck a left footed shot at Brad Freidels' goal, only for the American to produce a miraculous save a tip the save onto the post. However it was not long before SigurĂ°sson got his goal and levelled it for the Swans. He hit his right footed shot into the ground and it looped over Freidel. The Spurs fan were very anxious at this point, and who could blame them, a failure to win here would have been sixth winless Premiership match in a row.

The crowd were begging for Lennon to make his return but Redknapp seemed reluctant to let him come on. It took more than a few chants of "One Aaron Lennon" before we got our wish and we was brought on. Spurs looked like a different side with Lennon on the pitch, it gave us much more width, and allowed Bale and Van der Vaart to play in their more natural positions. The pressure soon told when Adebayor headed in a Van der Vaart corner, remarkably a second Spurs goal from a corner in a week. Adebayor also headed the third, expertly directing a floated Lennon cross past Vorm. That was enough to ensure that Spurs would end the weekend on the same points as Arsenal.

Lennon made a massive impact when he came on, not only in his own play but also in what he allowed others to do. If we are to claim third spot in the Premiership this season, it is essential that we keep Lennon fit. He is just as important if not more important as Bale, as while Bale is being double marked by both teams Lennon is often forgotten and this allows him the freedom that he needs. Hopefully he can stay fit, as a midfield containing Lennon, Van der Vaart, Parker, Modric and Bale is almost unstoppable and will surely guarantee Champions League football at the Lane again next season.
